Beaufort, NC Marina
After overnight thunderstorms rocked Adagio to sleep in the Beaufort NC marina, we awoke to clearing skies and 25+ mph southwest winds which pinned us to the dock. After an initial unsuccessful attempt to pull away from the marina, we decided to take a time out and plan our strategy. During the hiatus, Captain Charles creatively knotted four lines together to create a 60-foot spring line around three tall pilings which we used as fulcrums to pry us away from the dock. With the help of marina staff and some friendly fellow boaters, this technique worked perfectly. Once Adagio pivoted around the pilings, Jackson crew member and passenger Mark Wiggs followed the "Pull for your life instructions!" he had received from Captain Charles and marina staff and frantically yanked in the 60 feet of line hand over hand until it was safely out of the way of the props. We did not know Mark could move that fast. And then, just like like that, Adagio sprang forth from Beaufort toward Belhaven NC to the sounds of Bob Seeger's "Running Against the Wind."
