Rescuing the Propeller Shaft

After 3 days in Bimini with 30 mph winds howling around us, a weather window finally opened up from Bimini to Nassau via Chub Cay in the Berry Islands. We anchored in the crystal clear water of Honeymoon Harbor just south of Bimini to shorten the 95-mile trip the following day. As we were setting the anchor, we realized the starboard engine propeller was not functioning at all. So much for G & T's. The propeller shaft had somehow become detached from the transmission/engine and had slid back about ten inches. Yikes! Thankfully Charles had put a hose clamp around the propeller shaft just before it went outside the boat, preventing the loss of the 12' shaft and propeller! With help from fellow boaters from Brazil, Wichita, and Perdido, Charles was able to make the repair. Unfortunately, we missed our weather window and had to wait another week before travelling.

Not bad being there an extra week. Was wondering why no news.

Great job Charles!

If you’ve got to be stranded on your fully- stocked boat in Bimini with your sweetheart, at least you have a good story to share.👍🏼❤️🥂 glad it turned out well!
