After planning and dreaming for ten years, yesterday morning we left the safety, comfort, and Wi-Fi of the marina in Demopolis, Alabama to begin America's Great Loop. (Thanks to Belhaven friend Mark Wiggs for taking us to Demopolis). We felt a bit like Abraham and Sarah when they set out for the Promised Land, not knowing exactly where we are going, or when we will arrive, but filled with promises of adventure and new sites and friends along the way. This week we will follow the Tombigbee River as it meanders 213 miles south toward Mobile and the Gulf of Mexico. It is the longest, most remote stretch of the entire Loop, and we are constantly watching for floating debris that might bend a prop or sudden silted sandbars that might cause us to run aground. But unlike Abraham and Sarah, we have the latest electronics and navigational equipment to guide and protect us, while they set out on faith alone. We pray for both...and some pleasant weather thrown in for mercy.
Old friends are lifting up this journey for safe navigation and new friendships. Look forward to the tales. kab
Tommy and I are so happy for you two. We can remember your sharing dreams about this at a wine club dinner 10 years ago. So impressed that you held onto that dream and are now making it happen. We will remember your safety in our prayers and look forward to living vicariously through your adventures !!! Love you both 😘.
Love your analogy of Abraham and Sarah. Prayers for a safe and rewarding journey as. you realize your dreams. Thanks for taking the rest of us "along" via posts
Just reading your descriptions of the trip will be great entertainment!
Have a wonderful trip. Happy to be traveling vicariously on your voyage. ❤️
