Beaufort to Belhaven and Beyond

From historic Beaufort (pronounced BO-FORT), the third oldest town in North Carolina, Adagio sailed northward for 76 miles through sounds, rivers, and canals. With Carolina's Outer Banks in the distance off our starboard side, we traversed the swells of the Neuse River, followed by Pamlico Sound, Pamlico River and the Pungo River, past the town of Belhaven, North Carolina. Sitting at the end of the last segment constructed on the Intercoastal Waterway, Belhaven calls itself the "birthplace of the ICW." Captain Charles found the perfect anchorage east of Belhaven in the headwaters of the Pungo, where we enjoyed G&T's, BBQ, and a beautiful Carolina marshland sunset.

I know you are getting an in-depth tour today of Manteo and the Outer Banks. Can't wait to see photos of lighthouses, Wright Bros. and other beloved landmarks. RLW
